Look at the bright side, according to some radio & internet reports, we've seen Delmon Young play his last game as a member of the Twins.

Look at the bright side, it was a season that surpassed expectations and finished with us on the brink of the playoffs. The finale was intense and down to the last pitch. I, A-1 homer, had a hunch that the game would be ugly. I didn't see how Blacky could keep this game competitive given his recent lack of success, career high in innings, on the road record, etc. Good job Blacky!

I have no idea how you can continue your pollyanna happy fun optimist crap right now. The Twins have had every opportunity to make the playoffs and they failed - failed hard. Between the crappy way they played in the final month to only winning one against the Royals to losing tonight, they blew every golden opportunity they had.

Yes, the sweep of the Sox was epic, but is that all you want? Are you really happy with a season that ends up failing to make the playoffs with them so readily in their grasp? Honestly, maybe it's just the difference between the way you and I look at things, and I'm not saying I'm right - but I am, but I can't possibly find a way to look at this season as a success.

And, for the record, I have no problem with any decisions tonight. Blackburn pitched his ass off. I love the decision to send Cuddyer on Griffey's arm. I think leaving Blackie in to face Thome (and Griffey) was correct. It just didn't happpen due to a deficiency with the offense. They just couldn't hit when needed and the Mauer bunt was perhaps the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

I love ya Dawger, and usually I appreciate your posts even if I don't agree with them, but I honestly have no idea how you can post that and really mean it.

And, despite all I've written here about my frustrations with Delmon, if they trade him for less than a boatload I'm done.

And also I've put everything I have on the Rays.

WWWWWWW - The Twins had a paultry 56 M payroll, all of their free agents busted and we had to plug in unproven rookies throughout the lineup and rotation. We finished 1 game out of the playoffs. We got to watch meaningful baseball games until 9/30/08.

The top 3 payrolls (Yankees, Mets and Detroit) all finished on the outside looking in and Detroit finished in dead last. Those are major failures and their fans should be irrate.I personally would be filling up a warm bath and sharpening my razor blades if I pledged allegiance to any of teams.

Maybe the Twins are built to underachieve and any success is a gift. That excuse will be taken away once the new ball park opens and supposedly generates that extra revenue that allows us to spend money competitely. My expectations will also change once that ball park opens.

If you call me pollyanna again I will punch you in your glasses next time I see you.

PS Blacky wins 16 games next season and probably starts dating Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

This guy should write press releases for the Twins, the Rays were dealt the same issues with 13M less and no M&M boys. You are a complete ass if you think they should just accept this season for what it was, once they had even a sniff at the postseason the expectations should have changed and there should be no one out there apologizing otherwise. Here is another question, Why would your expectations change once the stadium opens? Why should they differ from where they are now? Have the Twins shown you so much while playing away from the dome and in open air stadiums that make you think because now that they are outside they will be the 1998 Yankees or the 87 twins or 91 twins or whoever? They will not be spending more, they are spending 15M less now then they did last year and they have been quoted as saying they will only spend an additional 20M once the stadium opens, so basically what you see is what you get, dont start changing expectations based on purposed future spending. They just didnt come through, plain and simple, they should have made the playoffs but they did not, but do not be a pansy and think it was a moral victory based off of preseason expectations, thats just loser talk, there are no moral victories in sports.

Anonymous said...

Thats loser talk... no moral victories... you sound like some gimmicky corporate rah rah poster.

You are an angry f-ing loser. The Twins didn't make the playoffs. GET OVER IT! I for one enjoyed the baseball season and was happy to watch meaningful games this late in the season.

Maybe you should work on managing your expectations a little better pal. Because if you get this whipped up over a baseball team just wait until you find out Blacky and Mijaresy just f'd the s out of your g-friend's c,b and m.

Bogart - After sweeping the Sox and then facing the Royals at home, needing only to take 2 of 3 to close it out, isn't it the Twins that crapped all over themselves, not the Sox?

Anonymous said...

I get whipped up at jokes like you saying how great it was to compete and how much fun it was to watch, they didnt win and I am fine with it but I am not going to sit and apologize for them all day on how they were not even expected to be there. Girlfriend...leave your mom out of the discussion.

"Matt" (aka, Bear?), how nice of you to finally speak up. Where have you been the last 10 day when - as I predicted - the White Sox nearly pulled off one of the most monumental collapses in recent history? There is no denying that getting swept by the Twins and then dropping 2 out of 3 at home to close the season was a monumental bed shitting. Yes, the Twins shat themselves a little too by dropping 2 to the Royals, but everyone on this blog all but counted the Twins out a week ago on the assumption that 2 1/2 games was just too insurmountable. In any event, I pulled a complete Snacks and bet on the Sox last night so I can now brag about how smart I am for picking them - even though if they would have lost, I could have bragged about how I picked the Twins a week ago. Either way I'm a genius, eh Snacks?

Anonymous said...

Tom Kelly- a "your mom" joke. WOW! that is soooooo funny..and totally original.......about 8 years ago. Hey loser go bitch about the twins and how they got gipped somewhere else. We like to refrain from being a Giant Pussy here. And Dawg should have known better then to think that you have a girlfriend besides the one you may have locked in your basement. Fing loser

gypped..you know what I mean

Anonymous said...

Sorry Bogart, I'm not Matt. I wish I was, he is a baseball genius, probably one of the best baseball minds on this site.

Monumental collapse? They didn't have the best offensive player in the AL for the last month of the season! The Twins had a million chances to put the Sox away over the last month and couldn't get it done. If anyone shit the bed it was the Twins.

WWWWWW said...

Dawg is a pollyanna.

Anonymous said...

Bear (aka Matt?) - you don't "put someone away" when you are in 2nd place. Its like saying the Vikes couldn't "put away" Tennessee last sunday. I agree that both the Twins and Sox stumbled through the last month and that the Twins had plenty of opportunities to catch (and pass) them, but last week when all hopes were lost here on DWG I called a Sox collapse and they thereafter dropped 5 out of , including 3 out 3 to the team that was chasing them. Just playing in the play in game was alot more than anyone could have asked for heading into the series against the Sox a week ago. Yes, its disappointing that they blew it, but you can't truly be "disappointed" in the season overall unless, of course, your a jaded asshole who likes to get his glasses knocked off his face into a snow bank.

Anonymous said...

And by the way Dawger, the new stadium will only doom the Twins as they no longer will be able to slap thier little shots into a concrete floor. My guess is next year is their last shot at a run for a long time.

Anonymous said...

That is such a pathetic & weak analogy. You sure as hell can put a team away when you are even with them. How about not dropping 21 of your last 35.

It isn't called collapsing when your team is riddled with injuries, including the best offensive player in the league. Let me guess, the Pats are going to collapse this year.

Congratulations, you've become a full blown Twins enabler.

I can't wait for the excuse you enablers give the Twins after they move into the new park. "Well the revenue that we thought we were going to get to improve the team just isn't there. Attendance just isn't as high as we thought it was going to be. How were we supposed to know that people wouldn't want to sit in the stench of incinerated garbage."

P.S. God bless the Dodgers! Hopefully they can put the Cubs down in 3. Nothing would make me happier than to not have to hear about the Cubbies, curses, Zambrano, and the Friendly Confines for the next month.

WWWWWW said...

Call me whatever you want Bogart, but anybody who isn't disappointed in the Twins this year has some serious enabling issues - like Megan.

Would I have been happy at the beginning of the year to find out they would be in a pennant race? Yes. Am I happy that they were in the pennant race and did nothing to help the bullpen or the lineup and pissed away every opportunity to win the division, even after the White Sox fell all over themselves to try to give it away? No. And that is the part that needs to be remembered, not the little engine that could. I'm so sick of that crap. THE SUMMER OF STUN!!!!!!!!!!!!1

And also: Dodgers, Red Sox, Rays, and Phillies.

WWWW - Did you listen to the Cure to much growing up? How can one person be so goddamn negative. Remember what you want about the season but you should maybe try to do something about your glib attitude before you pollute your daughter's young mind.

PS I'm still going to puch you in your glasses.

PPS Enabling? Could you be anymore fraudulent? Who is the fag that bought tickets to last Thursdays game and then ran out and bought a Kubel jersey? Its our same chubby friend that didn't give this team a chance all year until the last week of the season.

PPPS Kubel sucks his mom's dick.

This whole thing comes down to one's expectations. Who determines a team's expectations? Is it the fans, the internet, sports-talk radio, columnists, the team? Why can't expectations change? Why does the end result have to be judged on what the consensus of this team was in March? Things change, and as a result of things changing, expectations change.

The division was there for the taking in the last month of the season. The bullpen needed help, the Twins didn't add help. The playoffs are a massive crap shoot, any team that makes it in has a chance to get hot a win the World Series. I think that Twins management let down the team and it's fans by not improving this team once expectations changed.

In my opinion, there a two types of fans, homer fan and critical fan.

Personally, I think there is nothing worse than homer fan. They love the team no matter what. They don't question or criticize, they just accept the end result. They are almost afraid to criticize. For some reason they think if they question or criticize the team, someone is going to take away their #1 fan status.

Then there is critical fan, the backbone to any successful team. Homer fan hates critical fan, "critical fan is way too negative." The fundamental difference between homer fan and critical fan is that homer fan accepts whatever comes his/her way and critical fan expects more. Critical fan thinks of different ways to improve the organization and the team, he/she doesn't just accept whatever the team or it's beat writers tell him/her. Critical fan doesn't just accept status quo. Critical fan even voices his/her displeasure with the team by not showing up to games, not watching them, or even by booing the team. Homer fan hates them for this. Homer fan, unfortunately, has the mind set of a twelve year old boy, and just can't fathom why anyone would do such a thing to their team. "They are so negative, they aren't real fans!"

The thing homer fan doesn't understand is that critical fan can still cheer for the team, wear the team's jersey or hat, paint their living room in all the team's colors, yet can still be critical of the organization and team. Just because homer fan follows the team like a hopeless lemming, doesn't make him/her any better than critical fan.

Anonymous - Thanks for giving us your long-winded, self indulgent, arrogant, misguiged, thesis on fans.

It seemed awfully invovled for an apathetic critical fan that plans on sticking it to the Twins by boycotting.

The Twins failed to get to the playoffs along with the majority of all the major league teams. Get over it!

Its about managing expectations. Baseball is a pastime. It serves as a form of entertainment something to distract you for a few hours a day for 6 months a year. If it doesn't entertain you then you should find a different pastime.

Maybe you should put all of that critical energy into something more relevant such as community projects, war, health care management, school funding, property taxes etc.

If the Twins would have added Bradford who are you to say that would have propelled them to the playoffs. Would that have helped their young starters to overcome a season high in innings pitched or Nathan blowing multiple saves or Morneau grounding into a double play with the bases loaded against Kansas City.

Jesus its only baseball, get over it and get off your high horse. You sound like a f-ing loser which I'm guessing is contracdictory to the self indulgent prick position your were aiming for.

You are probably the same guy that goes to a strip club looking for a girlfriend rather then a lap dance which is what everybody else goes for. Entertainment.

Sign up for a support group or something but there is nothing more pathetic then somebody that continually swears a team off to jump back on the band wagon after a 3 game winning streak. Learn to be a passive fan because you will wind up with an ulcer or a mental institution by whipping yourself into a frenzy over something that you have no control over.

I would be willing to bet that if the readers voted on which of our postings was more "self-indulgent", it would be yours. I don't recall personally attacking you, but clearly I touched on many of your own insecurities. Sorry.

I can clearly understand why W*6 called you a Pollyanna, "community projects, war, health care management, school funding, property taxes, etc.". Are you kidding? Last time I checked this is a sports blog, where people talk about sports, not politics. If you want to talk politics, go to yeswecan.org. Maybe I should have gotten political and protested the building of Target Field. Given that baseball is just a "pastime" I don't think the county should have to pony up 400M for a silly little "pastime". Ironically, that 400M could have been used for "community projects, war, health care management, school funding, property taxes, etc.".

It's funny, I always thought baseball was a business, a billion dollar business, not a pastime. I know people of your ilk love to romanticize about the good old days, I would suggest that you read Mike Celizic's column. I would also suggest that if you can't handle talking sports, you probably shouldn't hang out on a sports blog.

Anonymous said...

Are you in the baseball business? Are you a shareholder in the Twins? (i'm aware the Twins aren't a publically traded company) Are you even a season ticket holder? I'm guessing the answer to that is no also. I would even go as far to say that you probably didn't even pay for a single ticket this year.

Spare us your talk about baseball being a business when the closest you get to said business is screaming at your tele.

Lets talk about insecurities. You you don't even have the minerals to sign your name. You like to jump on sports blogs and anonymously judge and characterize groups of people.

Keeping living your miserable existence.

Has anybody seen Forgetting Sara Marshall? Hilarious movie and I highly recommend it. Todd this movie is right up your alley with all the full frontal male nudity.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous #1 (aka mouth breather). I disagree that all fans are either homers or jaded critical assholes. Yes, Dawger is a homer and W is a jaded asshole (and he's fat too), but I think most fans are in between. Yes, it sucks that the Twins fail year after year at adding talent at the deadline and yes it sucks that they consistently let thier big players walk instead of paying up, but its not being a "homer" for appreciating an exciting and competitive season when your team full of 21 year olds wasn't supposed to do anything. Maybe if there weren't so many jaded pricks like you "boycotting" instead of ponying up $10 for a ticket to a game everyone once in a while, the team would have more revenue to spend on talent.

Anonymous said...

Quoting Sid, "Financially, the club did well with a $58 million payroll and will show perhaps the biggest profit in years after getting another $20 million in revenue-sharing."

Hunter is the only star the Twins have let walk and Santana is the only star they traded. "Consistently letting their big players walk" is just a myth perpetuated by lazy media members.

Anonymous said...

3rd highest attendence ever behind 88 and 92, and unprecidented revenue sharing and you losers still keep apologizing for them and patting them on the back for such a great effort. I am sure you are all the guys whose perents made such a big deal when you came home with participation ribbons from school. They can and should spend more, doubt they will, so we will look for another season of good but just not great ball next year and there you will be again the first in line to lick their sack and tout on what a great effort they gave.

Anonymous said...

Hey Bear (aka media elite), quit playing gotcha journalism with my posts. I think we can all agree that the Twins let Santana "walk." I know it was a trade, but the only reason they traded him was because they knew they weren't going to sign him.

Anonymous said...

It is a line that the national & local media have used when speaking about the Twins for the past 6 years, prior to Hunter & Santana. It's just another one of those annoying misconceptions about The Little Engine That Could. Somehow, releasing or trading Mientkiewicz, Rivas, Guzman, Koskie, Jones, and Milton has turned into having to cut ties with Murderer's Row. They didn't cut Ortiz for money, they cut him because he wouldn't play "Twins baseball."

I know that the Twins do a decent job of developing young players, especially pitchers, but I will ask this question for the one millionth time, What else do they do, that has everyone so enamored with them?

Anonymous said...

They consistently are contenders despite playing in a small market. And they still manage to find good players without having to spend big money on big name free agents.

Media elitist Bear, you misunderstood my comment. I did not mean to suggest that they land good players on the cheap through free agency. I just meant they are still competitive even though they don't sign big time free agents. When Ortiz left, they plugged in Morneau. Santana came up through the Twins system too and it appears (at least hopefully) that Liriano could be the next ace.
