Twins Make a Trade!!!

The Twins actually made a move to help them out, picking up Orlando Cabrera (.280/.318/.365) from the A's for a guy I've never heard of, Tyler Ladendorf.

Ladendorf is a shortstop, although he's more of a bat then a glove. After struggling at rookie ball last year, he destroyed it this year, hitting .410/.500/.721 in 17 games before being promoted to A ball where he's struggled a bit.

Aaron Gleeman ranks Ladendorf as the 32nd best prospect in the Twins' system, although he says he will likely have to move to another position.

Overall, the Twins got a good player to plug into a big hole, and did it without giving up anything resembling a major talent. I'm happy. I would have been happier with Freddy Sanchez (or both), but I'm happy. It would be fantastic if they could go ahead and acquire a bullpen arm (or starter) in the next couple of hours as well.

Where is he going to play?

Harris has an OPS of .676 and a Zone Rating (at SS) of 1.541

Cabrera has an OPS of .683 and a Zone Rating (at SS) of .350.

Cabrera is a huge defensive downgrade and negligible offensive upgrade.

They should have traded for Adam Kennedy to play 2nd. Neither Harris or Cabrera can play 2nd base which was the Brittney Spears sized hole that they needed to fill.

Only a complete dipshit would consider this an upgrade to the existing roster. They made a move just to make a move to pacify morons like yourself and it worked.

I believe this may very well be the first legimate point "Dawg" has ever made on this blog. Strike that, second, I believe he refered to SSF as a raTard which we all can agree with.

I am no baseball whiz but since the Twins, to Joe Blow baseball fan, looked like they made something happen and gave up nothing plus they are getting help with the salary. Coupled with the thinking that the offensive upgrade, at least looking at his #s since the break, will make up for a slight liability defensively. This trade will go over like gangbusters.

I have to believe that the plan is for Harris to shift over to second base. Otherwise it does little to nothing for the starting lineup.

And dawg, "only a complete dipshit" would say this doesn't upgrade the roster. Are you trying to say that Brian Buscher (who is probably the guy who will get sent down) is as good as Cabrera? Maybe it doesn't upgrade the starting lineup if Harris doesn't play second, but it absolutely upgrades the roster. Would you rather have Harris or Buscher coming off the bench late to pinch hit?

We traded for a pinch hitter?

Harris' defensive numbers shift significantly lower (over his career)when playing 2nd base (ZR of .548 as opposed to 1.541 at SS). If this trade really boils down to having a better pinch hitter then it should not be trumpeted as some huge upgrade.

What the hell are you doing talking about Zone Rating?

Fielding stats are tough to get a real handle on. If you use Range Factor instead of Zone Rating, Cabrera is a better shortstop than Harris, and Harris is better at 2b than at SS.

The Twins defense won't get killed by this, and a small notch down on defense should be offset by a nice bump for the lineup. Assuming of course Gardenhire is smart enough to shift Harris to 2b.

This isn't as good a trade as if they had gotten Sanchez, but it's far from a nothing move made to pacify morons.

BTW, I will bet dollars to doughnuts Cabrera comes out on that positive test list of 2003 list. Which means nothing today but he is likely to have been caught up in the Red Sox and their PEDs that Theo handed out like mini kit kats at halloween.

MMMM....kit-kats...

I do worry that Gardy won't move Harris to second. But yeah, it's a huge upgrade over the poo-poo platter IF Harris moves to second. Also, Chi-Sox got Peevy, so there's that too.

Ah god dammit. I had taken a nap, and I wake up to the news that the Sox got Peavy. That sucks.

"And dawg, "only a complete dipshit" would say this doesn't upgrade the roster"- Dawg and Complete dipshit go together in a sentence like peanut butter and ladies.....or Ham and vagina....Perfect. ha

I just read in the paper that Gardy "has no plans to play Harris at second." Casilla and Punto will continue to play second base, with Harris the backup at short and third.

Awesome. So this trade is completely worthless and meaningless. I dare you to try to defend Gardy now Dawger.

Harris isn't a 2nd baseman. Its not Gardy's fault that Smith traded for a guy with essentially the exact same offensive statistics. Maybe you shouldn't have squealed like a little girl after hearing the Jonas Brothers were coming to town when we traded for Cabrera. Don't pin your stupidity on Gardy.

I was at the game on Tuesday and got to witness the greatness of Gardy. We saw a hit and run and a sacrifice bunt in the same inning which lead to two runs.

The Twins need pitching. They should have given Toronto our entire Red Wing and Fort Miracle ball clubs to aquire Halladay. They need an ace to balance the ship.

PS It took you working day and night for a whole month to write a 50 page presentation on rubbers????

Harris can play second. He's done it before.

And yes, I would have been happy to give Toronto anything they wanted to get Halladay, and would much rather have picked up a pitcher than Cabrera.

True Blood was so good last night that I totally forgot that the Twins gave up like 70 runs in 3 games to the Angels this weekend.

WWWW - the theme of season 2 is orgies. Lots and lots of orgies taking place in a field behind Sookie's house. You should switch to Comcast, get HBO and watch the season On-Demand which is free if you have HBO. Trust me its worth it.

Neither Range Factor nor Zone Rating adequately reflects a player’s defensive skills. Cabrera’s Field-to-Putout quotient (.765) – a much more reliable defensive statistic – is nearly identical to Harris’s (.772). The trade is a wash.

WWWWWW said...

I agree. If Harris is not going to play at second base, this trade is worthless.

When does Season 2 hit DVD?

Dawg said...

Season 2 is still in process that's why I'm saying that you need to switch to Comcast and watch season 2 immediately. Unless you hate 50-75 people field orgies, vamp vs churchie wars, shape shifters, orgies, telepath's, vamp hotels, orgies and boobs then just wait until the DVD is released in 5 months.
