I hate the Yankees so much. I can't even believe I thought I hated the Red Sox as much as I hated them. Not even close.
Pretty much the only saving grace tonight is Mrs. W thinks Chase Utley is hot. That makes two of us, my dear, that makes two of us. I believe the quote was, "he looks like Jess from Gilmore Girls." Sadly, I know what that means.
This is the first time I've ever approved of one of her crush's more other than that one time she liked me.
Also I just want to say Cohutta is the fuckin' man. I love that bumpkin.

Why do you hate the NYY?
WWWW - I also find your hate for the yanks a bit confusing. I assume you hate them for how much money they spend, but you defend Gay-rod, their highest paid assassin?
News flash, people don't hate Gay-rod because of his lack of success in previous post seasons. They hate him because he looks like a faggot, he is a cheating juicer and gets to rock on sweet Kate Hudson. Speaking of which, how does she go from a down to earth guy like Owen Wilson to Gay-Rod, who is possibly the biggest asshole of all time?
Actually I admire the Yankees for the way they run their team. If they have the money, why not spend it? I don't blame them for Major League Baseball's faults.
I guess I'm not really sure why I hate the Yankees. I just do.
It's simply jealousy. You hate how the Yankees can simply decide they want to buy a world series title, and you wish it was that easy for the Twins. You also are jealous that they've won so many world series in you lifetime. I feel the same way.
When the yankees are willing to pay above and beyond the market value for players then it artificially drives up the price of every other player. They have destroyed baseball with terrible business decisions.
Disagree. The system has been destroyed by itself. If the Yankees want somebody badly enough, they just outbid the next highest bidder, and they can afford to do it. I don't think it's their fault.
Here is a reason why I hate the Yankees, this stupid true Yankee crap.

Dawg, you do know that Owen Wilson is an actor and the "down to earth" characters he plays are fictional, no? In real life he is a suicidal drug addict - very down to earth!
Owen Wilson plays the same guy in every single role so he isn't much of an actor. Maybe he is suicidal because his woman left him for Gay-rod. His character in Wedding Crashers was also suicidal over a woman. Therefore that must be what he's like in real life. Come on Barry get with the program.
catapult, its obvious that you cannot just decide to buy a WS title. If that were the case the Yankees would never lose. I do agree with the jealousy factor, especially from Twins fans. Their ownership could spend more but they dont because mediocrity is good enough for not only them but their fan base. It is nice to see an orgainization be rewarded for doing what they can to win.
Cohutta is the man! What would you have put the odds at, not knowing what the two ruins were going to be, that he would knock out Wes and Cyrus in consecutive weeks? 50-1? 100-1? You would have had to give me Michael-Bolton-wins-an-Oscar odds, and even then, I wouldn't lay down more than $20. He is singly handedly keeping this from being a runaway. He is the Cliff Lee of The Ruins, only nobody could have foreseen this.
He got lucky with Wes with the event being more agility and speed based than strength, but I wasn't surprised he knocked out Syrus, that dude is way overrated.
What do you call spending, what, 400 million this offseason on Sabathia, Burnett, and Teixera ? I call it buying a world series. The Yankees briefly toyed with trying to develop some homegrown talent earlier this decade and it wasn't working, so they just went out and outspent everybody. Kudos to them for doing whatever it takes, but to say they didn't buy the championship this offseason seems off base. I'm not going to sit down and look at everyone's roster, but I'd bet that if you add those three pieces to 10-15 (at least 5-10) teams coming into the season you'd automatically make that team the most talented in baseball and the world series favorite.
They have spent the most on the best free agents in the past and not won titles. Giambi, Johnson, Pavano and Brown come to mind. I think you are off in your thinking that spending = World Series Champions. Take a look at their homegrown talent, really look at that roster. They have 4 guys still on the roster from 95, name another team that has that. They farm just as much as the next team, the difference is they are willing to supplement that system with talented free agents. You may be upset that they choose to spend more than others but that in no way means they are "buying a championship". I seriously just dont know where the insecurity comes from. I hear all the time how people love to see the best players win the best and biggest events, eg Jordan, Tiger, LeBron but when arguably the most talented baseball team wins everyone hates them because they are the Yanks. Get over it.
When did this sports blog become US magazine with recaps of reality tv competitions? queers
And where did that homegrown talent get them? No championships for the last nearly ten years. So they went out and spent $400 to put themselves over the top, essentially buying a world series. My point is that if a team was willing to spend $400 million on those three guys this offseason, offhand, let's say the Red Sox, Rays, Twins, Tigers, White Sox, Angels, Rangers, Dodgers, Giants, Rockies, Cardinals, Mets, and Phillies, and probably more, that they would be the team that would be celebrating a world series victory this week. I'm not bitter or angry about it, it is the way the system works and kudos to the yankees for taking advantage of it. My point is that it is fair to say that they bought the world series this offseason.
In those 8 seasons they didnt stop spending on free agency, they only won this year because they played the best as a team. The same reason the last 8 champions won. I still contend you cannot buy a world series. I guess we will agree to disagree.
No, spending the most doesn't guarantee a championship, but it sure the hell gives you a good platform to start from.
There's a reason why the Yankees missing the playoffs last season was such a big deal, they start from a "playoff team" base every single year, where most other teams are there for various runs, but eventually have to rebuild.
The Yankees never have to. Or, if you want to call that rebuilding, they can buy players to plug in to weak spots where a lot of teams can't.
Its a combo platter, its free agency and building from within. Plugging up weak spots with the highest priced talent doesnt always work and niether does using nothing but the farm system. In the end its the players executing together to win, the cash they make doesnt factor in.
