Mbakwe signed with the gophers last night. This isn't breaking news but where will the gophers find the extra scholarship to give to Mbakwe. I've heard rumors that they will snatch Hair Pie's schollie or Blake will switch to an academic schollie.
Is this a common practice in basketball where you have a sports scholarship and they decide to take it away after 2 years and give it to somebody else? I'm pretty sure nobody that reads this rag of a blog has ever played DI sports but maybe they have a friend of a friend that could shed some light on this. Maybe WWWWW could call Tim Dawgs wife to see if this is common.
who's hair bie? busch? isn't he a walk-on who is on year to year scholarship only if there is one available?
Busch transferred from Cal Poly and was offered a schollie from the great Dan Monson and now Tubby is stuck with him.
However does a player have to surrender their scholarship or can a coach just say we are taking it away from you if the player didn't commit any university or team violations?
I THINK the coach can just take it away, and I think I remember hearing that Busch is aware of that possibility. I also think I heard that Hoffbauer qualifies for an academic scholarship and has offered to switch over to accommodate another player if needed.
